KPITB and UN Women Join Hands to Empower Women in the Digital Economy

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) and UN Women have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly promote women’s economic empowerment through digital inclusion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The partnership is part of the Digitalization for Women Economic Empowerment (D4WEE) project, funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the D4WEE project has established a formal framework of collaboration between UN Women and KPITB. The partnership aims to promote women’s economic empowerment through digital inclusion by leveraging KPITB’s strategic leadership and infrastructure, and aligning with provincial digital policies in the districts of Peshawar, Mardan, and Swabi.

The Secretary Science, Technology & IT Department, Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, along with the Managing Director KPITB and the Board’s senior team, hosted and attended the ceremony. In his remarks, the Secretary highlighted the ongoing initiatives under the Digital KP Roadmap 2030, noting that women are a vital part of the province’s digital transformation journey. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to extending full support through KPITB for women’s inclusion across all digital initiatives.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Country Representative of UN Women Pakistan, Mr. Jamshed Kazi, said that “women should be encouraged and brought to equal levels of opportunity in the digital economy.” He thanked all participants, particularly the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through KPITB, for their leadership and partnership in advancing digital empowerment for women.

This collaboration marks an important step towards bridging the gender gap in technology, ensuring that women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have equitable access to digital tools, platforms, and economic opportunities
